Agent: Newcastle and QPR are after Macheda

The Italian forward looks poised to temporarily exit Old Trafford with Alan Pardew and Neil Warnock after his services, while a return to Italy has been ruled out

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda is poised to join a Premier League side on loan to gain top-flight experience, according to the player’s agent, with a return to Italy ruled out.

The Italian under-21 international’s representative Giovanni Bia has revealed Newcastle are leading the race to sign him on a temporary basis, although QPR are also interested.

Red Devils' boss Sir Alex Ferguson previously stated his intention to keep all his forwards at the club, but now appears willing to let the 20-year-old leave to get first-team action.

"Macheda doesn't return to Italy, Manchester United will send him on loan in the Premier League," the agent told calciomercato.com.

"At this time Newcastle has the edge over Queens Park Rangers."

Macheda burst on to the scene scoring a dramatic winner on his debut three seasons back to send United to the top of the table, but has since failed to establish himself and spent the second half of last season on loan to Sampdoria.

He currently finds himself behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.

Both Newcastle and QPR find themselves short of options up front and it appears that both clubs see Macheda as a useful addition to their squads.

Ex Red Devil Owen Hargreaves is on the verge of becoming Citizens

Former Manchester United midfielder could be on his way to arch rivals after being released by the Old Trafford club, with a deal seemingly set to be tied up on Tuesday

Owen Hargreaves could be in line to make a shock return to the Premier League – to play for former club Manchester United's arch rivals Manchester City, according to various reports.

The Guardian suggest that Hargreaves has undergone a medical with last season’s FA Cup winners after the player was photographed leaving the Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester, while a deal could be completed later on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old midfielder was released by Premier League champions United at the end of last season following a four-year career at Old Trafford plagued by injury, with his last comeback resulting in only a five-minute performance against Wolves before a torn hamstring ended his season in November last year.

Hargreaves had offered to play for free for United this season to stay at the club, but was advised that this would not be a wise decision. The England international also posted a series of videos on YouTube to prove his fitness to potential suitors following his release, and had been strongly linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion.

Hargreaves had been offered a contract by the Midlands club but was said to be holding out for a more tempting offer, and Manchester City now appears to be his chosen destination.

The midfielder will be following in the footsteps of Carlos Tevez in crossing the city’s red and blue divide.

Wayne Rooney targets to break Sir Bobby's Record

Wayne Rooney has set himself a target - to chase down Sir Bobby Charlton's goals record for United.

The red-hot striker scored a hat-trick against Arsenal with his opener making it 150 for the Reds, still a long way behind the incredible 249 mark set by the legendary Sir Bobby.

"Funnily enough, I was aware I was one away from 150 before the game," Rooney. "I spoke to a few of the players and asked how many Sir Bobby had and Giggsy said I was 100 or so off.

"It's a target for me, to try and do that. Hopefully, in the next few years, I can do it."

The former Everton attacker admits he enjoys special moments against Arsenal after putting the Gunners to the sword again on Sunday.

"A lot of my milestone goals have come against Arsenal," he admitted to Sky Sports. "My first-ever goal for Everton, first Premier League goal for United, 100th Barclays Premier League goal for United and now 150th, all against Arsenal, so it’s obviously a great feeling. The performance today was incredible and we fully deserved the result we got, I thought.

"I think whether they had their full squad out or not, we were going to have a go at them, play and score goals. They had a few players out but take nothing away from our performance, it was brilliant.

"Obviously it was a good result for Man City [at Spurs], a good win, but we had to concentrate on ourselves today and I don’t think anyone else will beat Arsenal 8-2 this season."

Cleverley,Jones and Smalling called up for England Squad

Fabio Capello called Manchester United's youngsters Tom Cleverley, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to join the 25 man squad of England for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Wales and Bulgaria.

The trio have been in impressive form for Sir Alex Ferguson's men in the opening games of the season, including in Sunday's 8-2 mauling of Arsenal, as United deal without usual defensive pair Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who are both injured.

Meanwhile, Fulham keeper David Stockdale has been named in the squad again despite spending the season on loan at Champonship side Ipswich.

England regulars Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent make up the attacking options for Capello with the likes of in-form Ashley Young and Stewart Downing likely to be manning the wings.

England regulars such as Frank Lampard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart are all included in the squad, while West Ham’s Scott Parker is also included in the squad despite having dropped down a division as the Hammers suffered relegation last season.

England will travel to Bulgaria with a squad with a lot of young guns on Friday September 2.

FULL SQUAD:

KEEPERS:Joe Hart (Manchester City), Robert Green (West Ham United), David Stockdale (Ipswich Town - On Loan From Fulham).

DEFENDERS:John Terry (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Bolton Wanderers), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Phil Jagielka (Everton) ,Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Chris Smalling (Manchester United).

MIDFIELDERS:Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Scott Parker (West Ham United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Manchester United), James Milner (Manchester City).

FORWARDS:Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur).

Danny Welbeck ruled out for five weeks

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is ruled out for 5 weeks. After Pulling his hamstring the young striker was substituted in the match against Arsenal. After scoring the first goal of the game against Arsenal the English striker was injured.

The 20 year old was in a very good form but he will now be sidelined due to his injury in the match against Arsenal which The Red Devils won 8-2.

Sir Alex said "It is a loss for us and for England.

“Danny complained of a tight hamstring before he actually pulled it and we couldn’t get Hernandez on quick enough.

“It is a shame for Danny but it [his absence] will be around four to five weeks.”

United Crushed Arsenal Into 8 Pieces

The Red Devils ran over Arsenal in a 8-2 victory at The Theater of Dreams where the hat-rick hero Wayne Mark Rooney scored 3, Ashley Young  2, Danny Welbeck 1, Js Park 1 and Nani scored 1 for United. On the other hand Wolcott and Persie scored 1 each.

it was quite a drama in both halfs. It all started when Danny Welbeck scored an early goal which took the title favorites into the lead but afterwards he pulled his hamstring and was substituted. Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney extended for the lead for United after the the young Spaniard saved Van Persie's penalty but right at the end of the first half Theo Wolcott scored for Arsenal. In the second half Wayne Rooney scored 2, Young 1, Nani 1 and Park 1, and Van Persie 1 for Arsenal.

After all the drama the most important thing was that the Red Devils took the first spot on the Premier League table. They have equal point as their neighbours Man city but they are leading on the basis of goal difference.

PROBABLE
LINE-UPS

Manchester United (4-4-2): De Gea; Smalling, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra; Nani, Anderson, Cleverley, Young; hernandez, Rooney

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will be boosted by hopefully being able to call upon Rio Ferdinand, after the England international limped off injured during the Old Trafford side’s late opening day win at West Brom.

Midfielder Darren Fletcher, who has been called up for Scotland’s Euro 2012 qualifying fixtures against the Czech Republic and Lithuania could find a place on the Red Devils bench after recovering from the virus that sidelined him at the end of last season.

Arsenal (4-4-2): Szczesny; Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Jenkinson; Walcott, Ramsey, Rosicky, Arshavin; Chamakh, Van Persie

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will have slightly less pressure upon him after the north Londoners made their way into the Champions League proper with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Italian side Udinese.

Wenger will have to do without the suspended trio of Emmanuel Frimpong, Gervinho and Alex Song and with the recent departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, the Gunners midfield will be stretched during their visit to Old Trafford.

DID YOU KNOW ??

Manchester United will look to extend their undefeated home record at Old Trafford, which stretches back to April 2010 when they were beaten by Chelsea.

Last weekend, during their respective games against Tottenham and Liverpool, the clubs fielded sides with an average age of 23, which were amongst the youngest in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal claimed victory the last time the two sides came face to face, when they defeated the Red Devils as a result of a second half goal from Aaron Ramsey at the Emirates.

The Gunners have failed to score on their previous two visits to Old Trafford, in the Premier League and FA Cup, while they have also not claimed all three points since a late Emmanuel Adebayor strike sealed victory for Wenger’s side in September 2006.

The Arsenal boss will also be looking to kick off their season by claiming their first victory of the campaign after drawing away to Newcastle and suffering a defeat at home to Liverpool last weekend.

Owen Hargreaves Willing To Perform For The Red Devils For Free

Former Bayern Munich midfielder does not blame the Red Devils for releasing him but now feels he is in perfect shape and ready to "blow people away"

Owen Hargreaves has revealed he was so desperate to continue his Old Trafford career he offered to play for Manchester United for free.

The midfielder endured an injury-ravaged spell at Old Trafford after signing from Bayern Munich for £17 million, and left the champions in the summer after the club declined to offer him a new contract.

He has now revealed the lengths he went to, to stay at the club, before admitting he has no hard feelings about being released by Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"At one stage I did offer to play for nothing this season, just to stay on," he said in the Daily Mail.

"But they said, 'You don't want to do that' and they were probably right.

"I don't blame them for letting me go. I can understand it. There comes a point when you have to say this hasn't worked out. The game has moved on. See you later, all the best."

Hargreaves claims he is now back to perfect fitness and says he does not regret posting videos on YouTube in a bid to prove his injury woes are behind him.

"It ended up on YouTube because the files were too big to email to specific people, specific clubs," he said.

"So I put them on YouTube so they could see it. I know it became a bit of a story when people found it in the public domain but I don't really care. No big deal."

Hargreaves has become something of a forgotten man after missing so much football in recent seasons but the 30-year-old is determined to prove the doubters wrong.

"I'm going to blow people away," he said.

"I'm coming back believing I can return to the level I was at before. My body feels great and my knees are perfect.

"I've just got this huge chip on my shoulder because I've been out for three years and people think I'm dead and buried...

"But right now I'd like to think I can play 40 games this season and with the right care, I believe I can train every day. I hope to be back in the England side for the European Championships next summer.

"You have to have ambition."

Chicharito thrilled to return

Arsenal beware: Javier Hernandez is back in action and itching to take his place in the starting line-up.

The striker enjoyed a 10-minute run-out in the 3-0 win over Spurs last Monday, his first action for the Reds since May’s Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

Chicharito was given a month off after playing for Mexico in the Gold Cup in June, but then proceeded to miss all of the Reds’ pre-season and the opening league game against West Brom after suffering concussion on tour in the USA.

The 23-year-old admits he was impatient to be out for so long, but is now ready, if selected by Sir Alex, to take on the Gunners at Old Trafford on Sunday.

"It was great to play again, unbelievable," Chicharito.

"Two months without games was difficult, but I talked to my family and friends every day when I was out, and made sure I was ready." - Javier Hernandez

"I had one month off after the Gold Cup, and then the thing happened with my head, so it was two months without games.

"That was difficult but I talked to my family and friends every day when I was out, and made sure I was ready.

"Thankfully, for the last game against Spurs I was on the bench, then I played 10 minutes and I enjoyed it a lot."

Chicharito was a revelation in his maiden campaign, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, including four in the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger:Arsenal can win on Sunday

Under-fire manager tips his next opponents to lift the trophy come next May because they are the reigning champions and their squad is even stronger than last year

The Gunners have picked up one point from their first two matches, whilst the Red Devils have claimed a maximum of six points after winning their two opening matches.

Wenger praised United’s start to the season as well as the strength of their squad, pointing out that in their 3-0 win over Tottenham, they had several big players available from the bench.

Wenger told Arsenal’s official website: “They are the favourites because they won it last year and they do not look weaker. It is up to us to make sure they do not win it.

“Of course [we believe we can get the three points]. We have been very close many times since 2006 and we beat them last year at home so I believe we can do it.

“They have regenerated quite well, compared to last year, and there are still some good, experienced weapons on the bench. Look at last Sunday, for example, when they made the changes they still had Berbatov, Giggs coming on, and Carrick and Park. I would not be surprised if they start against us.

“

“They were quite good against Tottenham in the last game and they have started stronger than they usually do," he continued. "On the style of their play I feel they already look ready and fit.

“So it will be an interesting confrontation because we feel physically strong as well. Overall, I hope you will not be disappointed by the quality of the game. We go there to, of course, give absolutely everything.”

Wenger also moved to halt the worries of Gunners fans about their squad situation at the moment as he claims he is doing everything in his power to bring in reinforcements.

He continued: "I will try to strengthen the squad in depth because at the moment we are a bit short number-wise but if we get two or three players in we have the quality to challenge.

"I am anxious yes because I want to do it and I try everything to do it. But I am confident as well because we have some good young players who can make a big step very quickly.

“There is a chance [we could make no signings] because again we are dependent on the desire of the people who have the players to sell the players.”

Sir Alex Ferguson hits out at FA in four-letter rant

The Scot blasts the Football Association for treating the Red Devils unfairly despite the fact that they provide several players to the England international set-up.

The United boss was handed a five-match touchline ban last season for criticising referee Martin Atkinson, while striker Wayne Rooney was given a two-match suspension for swearing at a television camera when celebrating a goal.

Sir Alex told reporters: "The FA may realise who has produced more players for their country than any club in the world.

"Maybe they will realise how important we are to England instead of treating us like s***."

The Scot's comments come ahead of England's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales in September, with Fabio Capello set to name his squad for the matches on Sunday evening.

"It's not a problem, it's fantastic," he continued.

"Maybe they will realise how important we are to England. I am pleased for the players. They are outstanding."

The Champions League Group Stage draw will take place at 17:30 CET on Thursday August 25 2011, LIVE right here on Goal.com. Here we discover just who will face whom as Europe's premier club competition gets into full swing ...

How it works

The 32 qualifiers have been divided into four pots based on the Uefa coefficients, which are in turn decided by a mixture of the team's own performance in Europe over the past five seasons, as well as the strength of their country's league.

The Champions League group stage comprises eight pools of four teams: consequently, a team from each pot is drawn and placed into one of the eight groups available. This is done by pot and not "one at a time": that is to say, all the teams from pot one will be placed into a group, and then pot two, and so on down to the fourth and final pot.

There are some restrictions, though. Teams from the same national association cannot be drawn together, and even prior to that there will be two 'sets' of groups decided for the purpose of television rights. For example, the four teams from Spain cannot all be drawn in the same set.

Match Preview: Manchester united vs Tottenham Hotspurs

The last match of the 2nd round of the Barclays Premier League sees United host Tottenham. It is sure to provide a wonderful game with goals, magic, and true Premier League action.

THE FLASHBACK MOMENT:

United proved too strong for Spurs to handle with a header by Vidic and a controversial goal by Nani settling the match. Both sides had chances, but the Red Devils were more proglific and took their chances.

FORM GUIDE:

United beat WBA 2-1 last week at the Hawthorns. It was an encouraging start and sign to Sir Alex as United won only five games on the road last season. Spurs still haven't started their season yet as riots in London caused their game against Everton to be postponed. However, Spurs played Hearts on Thursday and showed no signs of rustiness as they won 5-0.

INS AND OUTS:

Rob Swire and co. look like they're busy with all the injuries so far. Rio Ferdinand (hamstring) and Nemanja Vidic (calf) were both injured in the last game and are unavailable for selection, as are Rafael (shoulder), Darren Fletcher (virus), Antonio Valencia (ankle) and Javier Hernandez (concussion), but Chicharito will be at bench and will make an expected return. This means youngsters Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, and Phil Jones are most likely to deputise. For Redknapp, he looks like he is suffering the same problem as he could be without Luka Modric, William Gallas, Steven Pienaar, Tom Huddlestone, and Jermaine Jenas.

TOP MAN:

The responsibility is most likely going to be on Wayne Rooney's shoulders and will look to add mre goals to his tally after last week's goal. Ashley Young is another danger man as well, as he set up both of United's goals last week. For Spurs, they will be depending on their wingers, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, to set up the goals with their trickery and pace. Rafael van der Vaart is also one to tightly mark, as he has the ability to break up the defence with a magical pass and also score. Peter Crouch will be relying on his height and heading abilities to give under-pressure goalkeeper David De Gea some trouble. Although a doubt for tomorrow's fixture, Luka Modric is no doubt the main man as he is the man that keeps Spurs tinkering through the match.

REFEREE:

The man with the whistle this week will be Lee Probert, who was in charge of several United games last season, including the 7-1 drubbing of Blackburn Rovers.

PREDICTION:

United will have a tough task on their hands against a Spurs squad that is fresher and more ready for this game. United are without their twin towers, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, and with a nervous De Gea in goal, expect at least a goal to be conceded. However, United will be too much for Spurs, especially at Old Trafford. With Young assisting and Rooney scoring, I predict a United win.

United 3-1 Spurs

EVRA BACKS 20 YEARS OLD SPANIARD

Patrice Evra is confident new Manchester United team-mate David De Gea will become a success at Old Trafford.

Spanish goalkeeper De Gea joined United in the summer from Atletico Madrid and was signed to replace the retired Flying Dutch man Edwin van der Sar.

However, he has endured a difficult start to his Red Devils career after making mistakes against Manchester City in the Community Shield and West Brom in the opening Premier League game of the season.

The 20-year-old, though, has the backing of his manager Sir Alex Ferguson and also the support of the rest of the United squad as he is showing a lot potential in the training session.

Evra, who also suffered during the early stages of his Premier League career after arriving from Monaco in 2006, expects De Gea to eventually prove the sceptics wrong.

The French man says it is too early to criticize him because it was his first game in EPL. Evra believes he is too young and will improve a lot

Evra: "I had the same thing when I joined Man Utd,"

"This is the way, when you play for Manchester United to accept criticism.

"I'm sure, I'm confident, everyone is behind him, he's a very talented player and I know he is going to make it."

Chicharito's Advice For De Gea

Chicharito tells De Gea: "It's good to talk"
Javier Hernandez has revealed the difficulties foreign players can face in adapting to a new life in the Premier League. Hernandez's Manchester United team-mate David De Gea has endured a difficult first few weeks in England, with high-profile gaffes raising questions about the 20-year-old keeper's suitability to the role of No.1. Hernandez, who is expected back in training next week following an extended rest after suffering concussion on United's pre-season tour of the US, said being able to speak English was a huge advantage for him: "Moving to a new country is always difficult, but the fact my dad and my sister came to live with me was a huge help," said Hernandez. "That made things easier. I spoke pretty well when I first arrived here and since then I've been improving bit by bit, understanding more and more and speaking better. But the truth is that knowing English was a massive help, because it meant I could communicate in the dressing room and get to know my colleagues more quickly.”

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has also been discussing the Reds' new number one and has offered his services as something of a mentor to De Gea, his Spanish counterpart. The Independent quotes Reina saying: "I don't know De Gea personally – we have played against each other a few times but I don't have a problem with whatever he needs. I imagine that he can get my telephone number from any friend that we have in common."

The Sun has Rio Ferdinand backing United’s youngsters to shine in the absence of several injured first-team players including himself.

Sniejder Ready To Battle Massimo Moratti

WESLEY SNEIJDER will have to go to war with his club president Massimo Moratti to get his "dream move" to Manchester United.

SunSport revealed yesterday that Dutch Man was so desperate for a move from Inter Milan to Old Trafford that he would slash his pay demands by £50,000 a week to £200,000.

It would still making him the second highest paid star at United - behind Wayne Rooney on £250,000 a week.

United offered Sneijder a contract last month and Inter were happy to sell at £35million.But the Premier League champs could not agree on Sneijder's pay.The attacking midfielder was sure they would come back with a new offer but that has not happened.

But now when Sniejder is ready to cut his pay, striker Samuel Eto'o is now on his way out of the San Siro to the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, so Inter do not want to lose another major star.

Moratti said: "Sneijder was untouchable before the situation with Eto'o and he has become even more so now Eto'o could leave.

"Sneijder is going nowhere."

With the Eto'o transfer almost done, that could open the door for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez to get his desired move out of the Etihad.

However, Moratti believes the £50million price tag City have put on the Argentine hitman's head will scupper any deal.

The Inter chief admitted: "It will be difficult to sort an agreement for the City striker."

Glazer Family Ready To Sell United

Manchester United's owners "The Glazer Family" are ready to sell The Red Devil's. The Glazers are willing to sell their entire stake in the Old Trafford club, which they bought for €900m in a leveraged buyout in May 2005 to Singapore stock exchange.

The American owners are reportedly preparing an initial public offering for up to 25 per cent of the club by the end of the year depending on market conditions

Manchester United's owners, the Glazer family, are prepared to sell their entire stake in the club amid reports of a $1 billion (€695m) flotation on the Singapore stock exchange. The Qatari government has previously been credited with an interest in buying United but the Glazers' reported €1.9bn valuation is said to have been too prohibitive.

The club is looking to slash its £500m (€570m) debits which are still costing United £45m (€51m) a year to service despite paying out around £350m (€400m) to service the loans taken on to buy the club six years ago. The Glazers' ownership has been shrouded in controversy, with many United fans angry that the club is in such debt despite an annual turnover of £286m (€326m) in its latest accounts for the year to June 30 2010.

Supporters groups have argued that the money spent to service the debt could have been used to improve Sir Alex Ferguson's squad and to keep ticket prices at a stable level during a tough economic period. The supporters were trying to push the Glazers out of the club since 2009.

The opposition to the Glazers' ownership inspired the Red Knights, a group of City bankers and lawyers, to attempt a €1.1bn takeover of the club in 2009. At its peak, the consortium amassed about 70 wealthy backers but the bid was ultimately thwarted by the Glazers' €1.7bn asking price. Now the Glazers are ready to sell the club in £1bn.

Fergie £20m Plan B

As Sir Alex strongly believes in the youth he has switched his attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze after missing out on Wesley Sneijder.

Sir Alex Ferguson was looking to reinforce his midfield with the Inter star, but Mario Goetze has replaced Wesley Sneijder as Sir Alex's top midfield target. Manchester United couldn't afford Wesley Sneijder because of his weekly.

the 19-year-old enjoyed his remarkable start to the season. the German first helped Borussia win their opening game against Hamburger before scoring a goal as Germany beat Brazil in midweek.

The report claims Borussia Dortmund and the Germany international insists that there's no way he'll leave this season but they might think if a bid of £20million is made by the Red Devils.

Actually Its ''Manchester United'' Not "Man U"..!!

In sports today (especially in football) history is one of the most rendered aspects of a club. For certain clubs, that history deals with some of the personalities that have passed through while for others it deals with the championships that have been won.

However, Manchester United have been one of a very select few clubs that can combine the two. Fans can hear stories of George Best and Eric Cantona, along with some of the championships that the Red Devils have won.

Fans throughout the world have grabbed onto the Manchester United brand and all that has gone with it and have made United into the most supported football club in the world.

Obviously fans have developed nicknames for Manchester United throughout the years. The most common of these nicknames has been the term "Man U."

In many different corners of the world, the Man U term is used to discuss the team. It is used in sports highlights telecasts to basic small talk between friends when talking about Manchester United.

Unfortunately, these fans have been uninformed about the origins of the term of Man U, which started after what is probably the darkest hour in the history of Manchester United.

The date was February 6, 1958. After defeating Yugoslavian side Red Star Belgrade on a 5-4 aggregate score in the quarterfinal of the European Cup, Manchester United's plane flew from Belgrade to Munich, where it was going to take a stop for refueling before flying back to Manchester.

The players that were on Manchester United's roster were known as "Busby's Babes" after famous manager Matt Busby. These players were considered to be the most talented young footballers in England and were the future of the English national team.

These players were exclusively developed by Manchester United and won the league in both 1955-56 and 1956-57 with the average age on the roster during these title-winning rosters being 21 and 22 years old, respectively.

The plane the United were flying in made two attempts to get back into the air at around 2:00 PM local time, but each time the pilots aborted the mission.

Subsequently, the pilots told the players that they were disembarking from the mission and that they would try to fly again the next day.

However, the pilots later had a change of heart and 15 minutes after the players left the plane, they were told to go back onto the plane for the plane's third attempted takeoff.

The players went into the plane scared, with multiple players purposely moving to the back of the plane, fearing the worst.

At 3:03 PM local time, the plane started up and as it moved down the runway, the plane's speed consistently was around 117 knots before the speed started to diminish.

Unfortunately the pilots could not abort the mission and the plane skidded off its runway, through a fence before it clipped a house and several trees before hitting a shed that contained a truck, causing the plane to explode.

On the plane, roughly half of the people were killed instantly. These innocent lives lost were not only some of the Busby Babes, but some also contained members of the media and crew members.

Altogether, there were 23 people who perished in the Munich Air Disaster while 21 were able to survive, nearly all of whom received injuries from the crash.

After the crash, there was one player who was able to survive the crash who later perished due to injuries suffered in the crash. That player was winger Duncan Edwards.

Even though he was just 21 years old, Edwards was viewed as one of the brightest prospects in England's history. He was just 16 when he made his debut for United and was a star for the English national team in qualifying for the 1958 World Cup.

Edwards suffered multiple leg fractures, fractured ribs and severely damaged kidneys from the crash, but his body's reaction to an artificial kidney caused internal bleeding and his body lost the ability to clot blood.

On February 21, 1958, Edwards became the last of the 23 people who perished as a result of the air disaster.

Following the air disaster, seven players were able to return and play for Manchester United (Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Harry Gregg, Kenny Morgans, Albert Scanlon, Dennis Viollet and Ray Wood) but it took years before Man United returned to the side that they were before the air disaster.

However, due to the air disaster and hatred for Man United, there were chants created to make fun of the Munich Air Disaster.

The first one was created by West Bromwich Albion to make fun of Duncan Edwards: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure rotting in your grave."

That is the chant that created the term "Man U."

Subsequently, two of United's biggest rivals, Leeds United and Liverpool, created chants that made fun of the Munich Air Disaster.

The chant that these two created went like this:

"Man U Man U went on a plane. Man U Man U never came back again"

"Man U Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word Munich)

Obviously every club has its own bad supporters, but these chants were the reason why the term "Man U" was created.

Today, most fans who say "Man U" have no idea where the term comes from or what it really means.

They do not understand that it is in face a derogatory term used to make fun of 23 innocent lives that were lost due to the Munich Air Disaster.

From this article, I hope that people will not only stop calling Manchester United "Man U," but we will also start to see this term diminished from popular use.

Even though the Munich Air Disaster happened over 53 years ago, we should never hurt the legacy of the 23 innocent lives that were lost on this day.

Injury Crisis In The Red Half Of Manchester

Namanja Vidic and Rio Fredinand join the list of injured players in Manchester United. The Red Devils won their first match of English Premier League against West Brom but during the match Namanja Vidic and Rio Ferdenand were injured, and they both will miss the upcoming match with Tottenham Hotspurs.

LIST OF INJURED PLAYERS :
  • Rafael da Silva: 10 weeks/dislocated shoulder; needs surgery
  • Rio Ferdinand: 6 weeks/hamstring
  • Nemanja Vidic: 2-3 weeks/calf; will most likely miss Arsenal game
  • Michael Owen: should be ready for next week
  • Antonia Valencia: should be ready for next week
  • Darren Fletcher: should be ready for next week
  • Patrice Evra: should be ready for next week
"We've had a torrid two or three days," Sir Alex admitted to Sky Sports. "Rafael hurt his shoulder in training and is out for 10 weeks as he's going to need an operation.

"Rio has hurt his hamstring and will be out for six weeks. With Vida, we don't know whether it's a nerve problem with his calf or not. He'll have that checked tomorrow. He could be out a couple of weeks. But with Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones here, it's a godsend to be honest with you. Also, Patrice Evra will be back next week, he'll be fit, so I've got options.

This is going to be a huge test for the youngsters as they will play in upcoming match with Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea, and it will also be a great chance for the youngsters to make their place in the first team squad.

Victorious Start For United

The Red Devil's had a victorious start as they edge passed West Brom. It all started when Wayne Rooney's fine placement found the the net at 13' but Nani missed some great chances. After wards Rooney's beautiful finish was cancelled off with Shane Long's debut goal when Manchester United's new summer signing David De Gea dived late, which helped Shane Long's shot in finding the net and West Brom in equalizing.

It was more agni for United in the second half when their captain Namaja Vidic and Rio Ferdenand were injured. The pressure built upon both sides, but The Red Devils were able to brake the deadlock on 81' when Ashley Young dribbled through West Brom's defense and was trying to pass the ball into the center of the 6 yard box but the ball was deflected off  Steven Ried into the goal. United dominated the rest of the 9 minutes which were left in full time whistle on the other hand West Brom were in intense pressure.

Manchester United got all three points  they needed and are at 2nd in the Premier League standings on the basses of goal difference. The defending champions are with 3 points and are having +1 goal difference and the toppers Bolton Wanderers are  having 3 points and are having +3 goal difference.

UNITED PERFECTLY PREPARED

Manchester United boss Sir Alex says Manchester United is prepared for all the challenges which are ahead of them. United's boss said that they have the perfect team and says he is going to give Paul Pogba a few chances. United's first game is with West Brom but the next 3 games are with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and eventually Chelsea will visit Old Trafford.

Sir Alex hailed the younger players at the club when he saw them at the training, like Tom Cleverly and Paul Pogba. He says he is going to give Tom Cleverly a starting chance from the start of the season but he is also going to involve Paul Pogba in some games. His words are "I'm very pleased with the way the pre-season has gone".

He said that it is very beneficial to bring young players into team because they have lot of talent and they are used to play the United way. He also said the training sessions have been fantastic and I always say that what you see in training comes through in the way you play in games.

The Scot has a very strong faith in the youth he says they can improve a lot all they need is a chance, and thats what he gave to Javier Hernandes "Chicharito" and he proved the Scot right to the world. He is going to give a chance to  Tom Cleverly to start almost every game so he also becomes a world class player. He believes every world class player comes from a young kid, this is the reason I'll support youth system.

THE SNEIJDER SAGA CONTINUES:

David gill is trying to land the Dutch Man to fill up the space of  "irreplaceable" Paul Scholes, but that wont be easy at all because the Dutch Man was offered a deal that valued around 30,000 pounds less per week than the wage he was having at Inter, Sir Alex was offering him 170,000 pounds a week which was the main reason Sneijder din't sing a contract with the Red Devils. David Gill already told Inter that they have to reduce their £32M bit to £24M to full fill the players wage demand. Sneijder looks set to play for the San Siro club the next season, but there is some hope for the Red Devil's fans that they can see Sneijder playing for the Red Devils.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex is said to be waiting for the Tottenham Midfielder Luca Modric. He'll be waiting for the player  till the next season to see that whether he signs for Chelsea or not.
