Match Preview: Manchester united vs Tottenham Hotspurs

The last match of the 2nd round of the Barclays Premier League sees United host Tottenham. It is sure to provide a wonderful game with goals, magic, and true Premier League action.

THE FLASHBACK MOMENT:

United proved too strong for Spurs to handle with a header by Vidic and a controversial goal by Nani settling the match. Both sides had chances, but the Red Devils were more proglific and took their chances.

FORM GUIDE:

United beat WBA 2-1 last week at the Hawthorns. It was an encouraging start and sign to Sir Alex as United won only five games on the road last season. Spurs still haven't started their season yet as riots in London caused their game against Everton to be postponed. However, Spurs played Hearts on Thursday and showed no signs of rustiness as they won 5-0.

INS AND OUTS:

Rob Swire and co. look like they're busy with all the injuries so far. Rio Ferdinand (hamstring) and Nemanja Vidic (calf) were both injured in the last game and are unavailable for selection, as are Rafael (shoulder), Darren Fletcher (virus), Antonio Valencia (ankle) and Javier Hernandez (concussion), but Chicharito will be at bench and will make an expected return. This means youngsters Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, and Phil Jones are most likely to deputise. For Redknapp, he looks like he is suffering the same problem as he could be without Luka Modric, William Gallas, Steven Pienaar, Tom Huddlestone, and Jermaine Jenas.

TOP MAN:

The responsibility is most likely going to be on Wayne Rooney's shoulders and will look to add mre goals to his tally after last week's goal. Ashley Young is another danger man as well, as he set up both of United's goals last week. For Spurs, they will be depending on their wingers, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, to set up the goals with their trickery and pace. Rafael van der Vaart is also one to tightly mark, as he has the ability to break up the defence with a magical pass and also score. Peter Crouch will be relying on his height and heading abilities to give under-pressure goalkeeper David De Gea some trouble. Although a doubt for tomorrow's fixture, Luka Modric is no doubt the main man as he is the man that keeps Spurs tinkering through the match.

REFEREE:

The man with the whistle this week will be Lee Probert, who was in charge of several United games last season, including the 7-1 drubbing of Blackburn Rovers.

PREDICTION:

United will have a tough task on their hands against a Spurs squad that is fresher and more ready for this game. United are without their twin towers, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, and with a nervous De Gea in goal, expect at least a goal to be conceded. However, United will be too much for Spurs, especially at Old Trafford. With Young assisting and Rooney scoring, I predict a United win.

United 3-1 Spurs
